Oktoberfest - A weekend break to remember

So it’s that time of year again - Christmas is over and the January blues have firmly set in, as we all gaze at our computer screens and dream away the cold mornings planning holidays and adventures for the year ahead. Today more than ever though the pressures and commitments of working and family life often leave less and less time for us to kick back and relax, or go in search of new experiences. It’s the age of the City Break, the Mini-Retreat and the Weekend break and we’re all learning to embrace it.
One such mini-break which has grown rapidly in popularity over the last few years is the mighty Oktoberfest in the beautiful German City of Munich. Just a few hours from London, each year Munich extends its arms to the world, as for 16 days it is overwhelmed by over 6 million visitors, who flock to experience the world’s largest beer festival. Over the course of the festival over 7 million litres of locally made Bavarian beer are consumed, along with some of the finest meats and sausages to be found in Europe.
Pillow Adventure Travel run a range of tours to Oktoberfest, either to/from London or accommodation only packages which can be combined with flights to create your perfect weekend itinerary. Transferring from Munich Airport to the beautiful Camping Thalkirchen where Pillow are based is easy, and before long you’ll be making the short transfer to the festival to soak up some of the legendary atmosphere, and even more of the famous beer! You may even find yourself truly getting into the spirit of things by getting involved with the local dress! Lederhosen and Dirndls are a plenty and before long you’ll be truly into the Bavarian spirit. For Further Details about Adventure Travel and Royal Ascot please visit the website.

A brief introduction to the horse-racing event of the year, Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot is a five-day event held each year on the third week of June. For both horse-racing enthusiasts and sartorial experts alike, this is the highlight of the social calendar in Britain, and has been for more than three centuries. With millions of pounds worth of prize money to be won, and eighteen Group Races held over the course of the event, people from all over the UK come in their droves to try their luck, and enjoy a thoroughly sophisticated day out.
As this is an event which is steeped in tradition, the format is the same each day. It begins with the Royal Procession, which makes its make from the famous Golden Gates down by the racecourse and into the Parade Ring. There are three separate enclosures for those attending Royal Ascot, with the Royal enclosure being the most opulent of the three; this is where the Queen herself sits, along with the rest of the Royal Family members. Not everyone is permitted to enter this particular enclosure, and those that do are expected to dress the part, with the ladies in knee-length dresses and hats, and the men in morning dress and top hats.
Ladies Day is the style centrepiece of Royal Ascot, drawing in women from every corner of Britain. On this day, the ladies attending wear the most flamboyant, colourful hats they can find, along with a matching dress, and spend the day smiling, posing and sipping on champagne as the press take their pictures. For those that a glamorous, exciting day out in a quintessentially-British setting, Royal Ascot is an event not to be missed.

Is adventure travel right for you?

If your instinct tells you that there’s more to travelling than sipping on cocktails and wandering through museums, then you’re most likely a budding adventurer! Unlike a typical resort holiday, where most of your time is spent lounging, shopping and sight-seeing, adventure travel will draw you out of your comfort zone and take you on an exhilarating journey into the real world. From the adrenaline kick that can only come from a death-defying skydive, to the incredible feeling of coming face-to-face with a wild animal, there’s nothing better than leaping into the unknown and taking on a new adventure.
Real adventure travel will push you to the limit, both physically and mentally, getting your mind (and your heart) racing with pulsating activities like white-water rafting, bungee jumping and paragliding. It can do wonders for your confidence too. After you’ve have spent a couple of weeks climbing glaciers, or trekking through the Amazon, never again will you doubt your own capabilities. These situations teach you how to trust your own decisions, and overcome dangerous hurdles. Upon your return home, you’ll find yourself sailing through daily challenges which would once have unnerved you.
Adventure travel will also leave you with some amazing memories; they say you can judge a good holiday by how many hours you can spend talking about it when you get home! In years to come, you probably won’t remember, or speak of that trip you spent sunbathing and shopping, but you’ll certainly tell tales of your heroic adventures trekking through jungles, or diving out of a plane.

Try out an exciting adventure holiday

If you are fed up of lounging on a beach or spending all day drinking, eating and then watching the same old entertainment at the bar, then maybe you should consider doing something different for your holiday this year and try out an exciting adventure holiday.

Adventure holidays are probably not for everyone, that has to be said, but if you are fed up with the same old routine but still want to get away and enjoy a holiday, then an adventure holiday could be perfect for you, giving you the chance to leave your home country and go and explore somewhere new and at the same time try lots of exciting and adventurous activities out.
If you are not sure about whether you are going to enjoy an adventure holiday, then you could try starting with something a bit less adventurous and maybe going on a small hike combined with a bit of a break afterwards. Or, you can get straight into it and really go all out, as there are loads of things that you can really sink your teeth into when it comes to getting a bit of adventure into your life.

It is true that most people tend to go on adventure holidays when they are younger, mainly because you do not have the worries of kids or other things that might make you change your outlook on life, and some adventure holidays can also place quite a physical demand on your body, which might not be ideal if you’re a bit older.

Experienced your first travel holiday

Once you have the travel bug then it can be very hard to shift, with the last adventure not seeming like it was enough and making the new adventure needing to be even better.
The world has now become such a small place that you can pretty much travel anywhere you want to, with aeroplanes, trains and boats connecting small countries to large countries and continents to other continents.
Once you have experienced your first travel holiday or trip, you will quickly need to find something else, because the exhilaration and excitement you get from doing something a bit different and from really trying some new can be amazing and is often something that we will want to keep doing again and again, but each time, doing something more exciting.

From trekking in the mountains of Nepal through to bungee jumping and sky diving in Australia, an adventure holiday can often be exactly what you want it to be, with many different elements and things that you can put together to make it really, really fun. There is often no limit when it comes to adventure travel, because as long as you are happy to try it, then you can do it, as there are now many companies who specialise in adventure travel and can tailor packages just for you.

Welcome to the world of adventure travel

Camping with a difference? A European break but combined with a Beer Festival? Bungee jumping from a bridge as part of a tour to Germany?

Welcome to the world of adventure travel , where going away for a few days is simply not enough.

For many of us, we have done all of the usual holidays and have had our weeks by the pool and the urge to do something different strikes us because we no longer want to relax, we want to do something exciting!

There comes a time in everyone’s life that we just wake up and feel that the time is right to break from the norm and go and see the world through different eyes, doing something different and more exciting than we would normally do.

Adventure travel allows us to go and see the world but at the same time do something different, rather than just sitting by the pool or lazing on the beach. Although it is undoubtedly not everybody’s cup of tea, when we reach a stage in life that we are bored and maybe a bit down in the dumps, going travelling and doing something exciting can really make us happy and full of enthusiasm again.

Sound like something that would really float your boat

When we look at adventure travel and doing new and exciting things, nothing could probably be more exciting than travelling over to Spain and being chased by a dozen or so bulls.

If this sounds like your worst nightmare then adventure travel is probably not for you, but if it does sound like something that would really float your boat then maybe you should consider booking up with an adventure travel company and taking part in the annual running of the bulls in Sanfermines or one of the many Spanish or
Portuguese towns that hold similar events.

These type of events attract thousands of people, with many coming along to view the bravery of the people that actually take part in the event, which consistently attracts many brave young people that want to take part.

Travelling across to witness the event is something that you will remember for the rest of your life, because it is normally part of the festivals that each town holds, which means you will have an amazing time and see some fantastic things.

Adventure travel is something that most of us think about at some stage of our lives, maybe it is when we are younger and want to do something exciting or when we enter our retirement years and wonder if there is something we should be doing in case we have missed out.

No matter what time of life you are at, adding a bit of spice to your travel and going and doing something totally different and exciting can offer an ultimate experience, which means that not only do we get to see new parts of the world, but that we can also do it in style, doing things that we would never have considered previously.

The world is now so much more of an accessible place, with air travel cheaper than ever making it far easier to get to the far side of the world if we wanted to begin our adventure there.
