A brief introduction to the horse-racing event of the year, Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot is a five-day event held each year on the third week of June. For both horse-racing enthusiasts and sartorial experts alike, this is the highlight of the social calendar in Britain, and has been for more than three centuries. With millions of pounds worth of prize money to be won, and eighteen Group Races held over the course of the event, people from all over the UK come in their droves to try their luck, and enjoy a thoroughly sophisticated day out.
As this is an event which is steeped in tradition, the format is the same each day. It begins with the Royal Procession, which makes its make from the famous Golden Gates down by the racecourse and into the Parade Ring. There are three separate enclosures for those attending Royal Ascot, with the Royal enclosure being the most opulent of the three; this is where the Queen herself sits, along with the rest of the Royal Family members. Not everyone is permitted to enter this particular enclosure, and those that do are expected to dress the part, with the ladies in knee-length dresses and hats, and the men in morning dress and top hats.
Ladies Day is the style centrepiece of Royal Ascot, drawing in women from every corner of Britain. On this day, the ladies attending wear the most flamboyant, colourful hats they can find, along with a matching dress, and spend the day smiling, posing and sipping on champagne as the press take their pictures. For those that a glamorous, exciting day out in a quintessentially-British setting, Royal Ascot is an event not to be missed.

Real adventure travel will push you to the limit, both physically and mentally, getting your mind (and your heart) racing with pulsating activities like white-water rafting, bungee jumping and paragliding. It can do wonders for your confidence too. After you’ve have spent a couple of weeks climbing glaciers, or trekking through the Amazon, never again will you doubt your own capabilities.
